A day in the life of a holiday maker at Paradis
03/12/2018Okay, so technically it wasn't just one day, we had 8 amazing days and nights at Paradis en vacances...
We were very lucky to receive an Ocean Beachfront room at Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa which was just steps away from a beautiful little cove, great for snorkelling or just relaxing and reading a book. The Ocean Beachfront rooms are conveniently located close to the water sports centre, which we visited on a few occasions. We were spoilt with a variety of watersports, we had a lot of fun paddle boarding and we even took out a pedalo and a kayak. My son decided early on that he wanted to try water-skiing. He had a lesson with Francis who was so patient with the children, he's worked at Paradis for over 35 years and I think he has taught quite a lot of the staff to water-ski too! I decided to pass on that activity though, we were very content just paddling out with our snorkels from the beach. I would recommend purchasing jelly shoes for children before travelling, but if you do forget you can pick these up in the boutique. Also the all in one snorkels are amazing, it gave my son so much more confidence.
Delighted by the Kids club
I thought my son, now at the age of 10 would feel he was too old or too cool for the kids club - how mistaken was I. He loved it! On his first day he met a friend and from that moment on there were so many activities he wanted to participate in.
Every day they had water sports in the pool between 11-12, before that there could be a golf lesson or Mini Olympic Games. So he would go off in the morning and then return to spend the afternoons with us. Then in the evenings my son was so eager to return to the kids club that he would rush his dinner to go catch up with his friend, or go crab hunting and enjoy the cinema evenings (held once a week). This gave us adults some precious me time to sit back and relax, we either spent our time at the restaurant or headed to the bar for the evening entertainment.
Our stay crossed over October half term and the French school holidays and it was great to be there for Halloween. I wasn't sure if they would do anything special to celebrate Halloween but the kids club arranged for them all to get together early evening and do face painting before heading off trick or treating. This was a great relief to my son who was not sure if he was going to get any sweets this year.
Exploring the resort
Between Paradis and Dinarobin there are 8 restaurants as you can inter-dine between the two properties. I know I shouldn't have a favourite, but I do - Blue Marlin at Paradis. There is just something so special about that restaurant and the live music. However saying that, we were also very happy with the buffet at both properties. The food is amazing, but I am still looking for that miracle which stops me gaining 1 lb for every day I spend on the island! But in my next breath, I also need to tell everyone about the pancakes at the main bar between 3.30 and 5.30, with a variety of toppings... but for some reason the Nutella jars went down very quickly.
Dinarobin felt like a little secret and we popped up there a few times for either lunch or dinner. My son loved getting on "Le Shuttle" which is the special cart that runs between the two properties on a 15 minute rotation. The route to Dinarobin also doubles up as a great little 3k running circuit for those who want to be active. Talking of active, I also walked my first 18 hole golf course, and what better place to do it, than at Paradis with the back drop of Le Morne it's such a beautiful setting. Hole number 6 in particular was my favourite - just so pretty.
My other half played the full 18 and my son sneaked a few holes, but shh, don't tell Paradis. We all had a go on the driving range as well which was good fun. The boys went back a few more times on their own whilst I had my holiday rituals of some precious spa time. I booked an hour B(e) Discovery massage with Nazira, who was the Assistant Spa Manager. Wow, what a great massage, I felt totally relaxed as she worked away at my knots. I had booked a facial as well but after such an amazing massage, I decided to change it to another massage for our penultimate evening.
I probably haven't told you half of what we did at Paradis, all I can say is I am a lucky lady and I have re-iterated this to my son on many occassions. We are truly spoilt with some of the holidays we have and being a part of the Beachcomber family allows us opportunities that only some can dream of. A bus-man's holiday is not for everyone, however I am a firm believer that for the staff at Beachcomber Tours it ignites the passion we have for our amazing product.
