Chasing Dolphins and Sunsets

Mary Moran, Senior Reservations Consultant, recently returned from an unforgettable visit to Dhigali, Maldives, where her journey began with a magical dolphin encounter.

Our trip to Dhigali, Maldives, began with an unforgettable speedboat transfer. As we glided over the crystal-clear waters, a pod of dolphins greeted us, playing freely in the peaceful early morning, with not another boat in sight. It was a magical moment that set the tone for our entire stay. For those traveling directly from Mahé, seaplane transfers are also available, offering breathtaking bird’s-eye views of the islands en route to Raa Atoll.

Dhigali itself offers luxurious and comfortable accommodations, with stunning views from every corner of the resort. Our modern lagoon villa featured a lavish bathroom, a private pool, and direct access to the house reef. Lounging on our sunbed, we watched manta rays glide gracefully beneath the water and fish swim around our villa. Snorkelling around the island was a true adventure. Beyond a few restricted areas, the island is a snorkelling paradise, where we encountered trumpetfish, reef sharks, blue sturgeon, and even the occasional manta ray.

From arrival to departure, the premium all-inclusive package enhanced our stay with top-shelf wines, beers, and spirits. For such a small island, the dining options were impressively varied. Lunch at Capers buffet offered a wide variety of beautifully presented dishes. For a more casual experience, the pop-up pizzeria was a delight; we loved taking our pizza to a quiet spot on the island to enjoy in private. Dinner at Battuta offered a culinary journey, blending Asian and Middle Eastern flavours inspired by the travels of 14th-century explorer Ibn Battuta.

The perfect way to end any day was at Haali Sunset Bar, located on the island’s western tip. Sinking into a beach beanbag with a cocktail in hand, accompanied by the soothing sounds of a saxophone while watching the sun disappear into the horizon.

From playful dolphins and snorkelling adventures to exquisite dining and breathtaking sunsets, Dhigali provides a peaceful, luxurious, and truly memorable Maldivian escape. I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking an abundance of marine life, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences.
