Immerse yourself in desert life

A truly magical addition to any Oman holiday is a stay in the Wahiba Sands. If you are keen to immerse yourself in desert life read on as Debby, our Direct Reservations Manager shares her spellbinding experience at the Desert Nights Camp...

Oman was one of the most memorable trips I have ever experienced with so many highlights, but for me, the ultimate highlight was the trip to the Wahiba Desert. As you arrive in the desert you are immediately surrounded by dunes that tower over you like mountains. With no other cars in sight - just the occasional camel sauntering along you are amazed how beautiful and quite magical dunes can be. 

After roughly 25 minutes we reach our accommodation for the night - Desert Night Camps  which in itself is really luxurious. The camp is situated in 10 acres and has 39 Bedouin-style tents with all modern amenities including air conditioning (not like my Girl Guide days). 

We arrange to meet at 6pm to be driven high up on the dunes to watch the sunset. We all find our own spot perched on the dunes to witness the sun slowly going down and Penny and Gary look tiny in the distance as they climb even higher. 

As we all sit and watch, the silence and stillness hits you and we all find time to reflect as we watch the sand change colour as the sun drops. The cars then appear to take us back to the camp, or for the more adventurous the opportunity to run down arises (which is not quite as easy as it looks). 

A lovely dinner is then served which consists of a BBQ and authentic Oman cuisine, it can be taken under the stars or inside the airconditioned tent. Before we know it it's time for bed and once back in your tent the only noise you can hear is the slight wind and crickets. 

Truly an experience not to be missed.
