Martin Maclaren shares his experience

Our Martin (Beachcomber Tours’ Regional Sales Manager) and his partner, Dougie, have recently returned from a wonderful holiday to their favourite Beachcomber resort in Mauritius, Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa. We caught up with Martin and asked him a few questions about his trip.

Q – What is it about Victoria Beachcomber that is so special to you?
When I was a travel agent (20+ years ago) my first Beachcomber booking was to Victoria Beachcomber, and I still remember selling it. The location of the resort is excellent, you can relax on the beach or head into Grand Baie (10-15 minutes by taxi) for shopping and nightlife. Victoria Beachcomber also has a tranquil setting, we love sitting on the beach sampling the cocktail list.

Q – Tell us about the room you stayed in.
We stayed in the adults-only section, Victoria for 2 in a Swim-Up Room. LOVE LOVE LOVE these rooms, but you need to book early as they sell fast. We loved getting up in the morning and sitting on our terrace and having a swim in the pool.

Q – Which is your favourite restaurant?
My favourite restaurant is Morris Beef as it is exclusively adults only. We tried several dishes from the menu, but the one that stood out the most was grilled rib of beef with barbecue sauce – simply amazing.

Q – What is your favourite cocktail?
Doug and I tried over 20 different cocktails and they were all excellent, plus we had some great staff recommendations. I do love a Bloody Mary while on holiday, but my favourite must be a Brandy Alexander.

Q – The resort has a wide range of complimentary water sports. Did you take part in any?
Really, do I look as if I do any sports? I did watch others water-ski whilst sitting at one of the bars.

Q – How was the spa?
The Spa at Victoria is different from our other hotel spas, but the treatments are exactly the same, FANTASTIC. I had a Well-Being Shiatsu Massage and I would recommend it to everyone. Really relaxing.

Q – Anything you’d like to mention about the resort or staff?
It was great to be back and see all the smiling faces of the teams in the hotels. I am so blessed to have such a great product to sell to the UK travel trade.

Q – For guests thinking about staying at Victoria Beachcomber what would you recommend they do or try?
Victoria is perfect for everyone. For families, the rooms are large and there are also 2-Bedroom Family Apartments. For couples, Victoria for 2 offers an exclusive adults-only section to the resort which I really recommend. I would also encourage guests to taste as many cocktails as possible, they are so good. 

Q – And finally, how did you find the form filling and travel tests?
I have to say it was all very straight forward as Doug and I booked all the necessary tests online. Just make sure you have all the right insurance and test certificates and you will be fine.
