With years of experience and over 300 weddings under our belt, we are happy to answer any questions you may have about getting married in Mauritius. If your question isn't answered by the FAQs below, please do get in touch with us.
From start to finish you will have the support of our knowledgeable reservations team here in the UK and a wedding planner on hand for you when in Mauritius. They will be more than happy to advise you on anything you need to know about your wedding in Mauritius.
We offer three superb options for your wedding in Mauritius which start from as little as £715 – See our Mauritius wedding packages
Once you have chosen your ideal date let us know and it will take us 24hrs to check that no other wedding is planned at the hotel that day – as we guarantee only one wedding a day at each of our resorts. If the day is free we’ll get everything booked up and confirmed to you. To confirm your booking we will require a deposit of 10% of the total cost of your holiday plus £150 deposit for the wedding package.
We require copies of the following documents from you at least eight weeks before you depart the UK. Mauritius weddings take place Monday to Friday only (excluding public holidays), and please note, we'll need to plan in advance as we are required to give the Supreme Court at least one month's notice. We also suggest that you are in Mauritius for at least three days before your wedding date.
IMPORTANT
You must take all original documentation with you to Mauritius!
The Mauritian Government now requires all couples getting married in Mauritius to have their birth certificates re-issued and dated within 3 months of your wedding date.
This will negate your need to visit the Attorney at Law and Supreme High Court in Mauritius. You’ll still need to visit the Civil Status main office in Port Louis and the Civil Status Sub Office.
New UK birth certificates must be ordered online at https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate. To ensure we receive your documents on time, please use the priority ordering service.
Please take care not to order too early as the date of issue must be no earlier than 3 months prior to the wedding date. All original documentation and paperwork must be taken with the wedding couple to produce at the relevant offices when completing the formalities once in Mauritius. Should wedding couples hold non-UK birth certificates, they should check with their own Embassy for advice on how to obtain a new birth certificate.
In some circumstances, where it is not possible to obtain a duplicate birth certificate, arrangements must be made to complete an Affidavit before travelling to Mauritius. This signed Affidavit must also be dated within 3 months of the wedding date and copies sent to us together with all other documentation.
If you have any questions regarding these new wedding document changes, please give us a call and we’d be happy to assist.
Because we need time to get all your wedding paperwork together and sent off to the hotels we would say we need at least eight weeks to organise it properly.
Weddings take place Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
We suggest that you are in Mauritius for at least three days before your wedding date.
The ceremony will last for approximately half an hour. We advise that you speak to your wedding co-ordinator at the resort to confirm this on your arrival.
We advise that you pick 4 pieces of music that you bring to Mauritius with you.
All of our weddings are civil ceremonies.
All weddings in Mauritius will be conducted in English. If you would like the ceremony conducted in another language please let us know at time of booking and we will happily find out if this is possible.
Your wedding will be performed by a licensed marriage officer which ensures your wedding is completely legal and recognised by UK law. The minimum age to get married in Mauritius is 18 years.
If you have been divorced longer than 10 months we need a copy of your decree absolute sent to our UK office. You must take all original documentation with you to Mauritius. By Mauritian law if the bride-to-be has been divorced for 10 months or less she will need a Mauritian Doctor’s certificate of non-pregnancy. If the bride to be is already pregnant you would have to wait until she has been divorced for more than 10 months.
Yes, you can. But there could be additional paperwork and charges that may apply even if you hold dual citizenship with the UK.
If you hold a non-UK passport, have dual nationality or are not a UK citizen, it is your responsibility to confirm your specific passport/visa and other immigration requirements with your Embassy prior to booking. Non-UK citizens getting married in Mauritius will need their marriage certificate sent to the Prime Minister’s office to have an Apostille stamp, so that it is internationally recognised. Additional costs apply.
Each airline we feature to Mauritius has a different baggage policy concerning wedding outfits. As these change from time to time we recommend that you speak to our reservations department before you travel so they can make the necessary notes in your airline reservation. Air Mauritius allows a second piece of luggage not exceeding 23kgs for the brides wedding dress only. British Airways also allows a second piece of luggage for wedding outfits and this too must not exceed 23kgs. For Emirates and Air France your wedding outfits form part of your luggage allowance and you may be charged if you exceed this. We recommend that all your wedding outfits are professionally packed as the airlines will not allow you to hang them onboard the aircraft.
In Mauritius the emphasis is on relaxation and individual tastes. Mauritius has a warm climate all year round so we would suggest for the bride that she chooses something light-weight. For the groom linen, is a popular choice however it really is down to personal preference. You really can wear what you want from kilts to shorts, full wedding dresses to a casual sun dress the choice is completely down to you!
Two witnesses over the age of 18 are required by law. Not to worry if you have decided on a quiet intimate wedding for just the two of you we will arrange the witnesses for you.
You can invite as many guests as you like, however, if you do have a large group we would recommend you get your guests to book at the same time as you to ensure availability. We’re also delighted to say we have a superb Wedding Party Offer which we hope will encourage as many of your family and friends to join you as possible. If you’re arranging a wedding reception, a minimum of 40% of your guests must be staying at the same hotel as you.
As each of our Beachcomber hotels look after their own guests as a priority, if your guests do choose to stay at another hotel you will have to confirm whether they can attend the wedding at time of confirmation as this is down to the hotel and its occupancy over your wedding dates.
Unfortunately, at this stage, we cannot organise same sex weddings or commitment ceremonies in Mauritius.
At all of our hotels in Mauritius you can arrange to have your hair and make-up done with a trial session. This is included in the Beachcomber Barefoot and Beachcomber Bespoke wedding packages.
We do not organise insurance for you, although there are a number companies that specialise in wedding and honeymoon insurance. We would also recommend your guests take out travel insurance just in case anything has to be changed!
All Non British passport holders who are not part of the commonwealth need to have their marriage certificate stamped with an Apostille to authenticate it. Transport to the relevant offices to obtain the Apostille stamp will be required and will be at an additional charge.
