Planning your Wedding

We understand that planning your wedding and honeymoon abroad is one of the most important and time-consuming experiences of your life. We take delight in helping you create a special day for you and your guests, saving you time and stress while giving you something truly to look forward to. With experience arranging over 300 weddings in Mauritius each year, rest assured that your big day is in trusted hands.

Unlike many others, we guarantee just one wedding a day at our Beachcomber hotels, ensuring your special day is truly special. We’ve even created a helpful guide to saying “I do” in Mauritius.

Before You Go

• Once you have made your booking, we will send you a confirmation along with the Beachcomber Wedding Form. All you need to do is send us the necessary documentation and relax!
• You will need to have your birth certificate re-issued and dated within three months of your wedding date. These newly issued birth certificates should be scanned or posted to Beachcomber Tours approximately 8 weeks (and no later than 5 weeks) in advance of the wedding, along with all other documentation. New UK birth certificates must be ordered online at https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate. To ensure we receive your documents on time, the priority ordering service must be used. Please take care not to order too early, as the date of issue must be no earlier than 3 months before the wedding date.

All original documentation must be taken by the wedding couple to present at the relevant offices when completing formalities in Mauritius. Couples with non-UK birth certificates should check with their embassy on obtaining a new certificate. In some cases, if a duplicate cannot be obtained, an Affidavit must be completed before travelling. This Affidavit must also be dated within three months of the wedding date, with copies sent to us alongside all other documentation. • Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months after your return date. If not, apply for a new one in plenty of time.
• If travelling onward to another destination that requires vaccinations or malaria tablets, make sure you are up to date with all requirements.
• If you require a visa, contact your consulate to ensure it is obtained before departure.
• The final balance will be due approximately 10 weeks before travel. At this point, it’s a good idea to re-confirm any special requests with the hotel and check your airline’s policies regarding pre-seating, luggage allowances, and dietary requirements.
• About three weeks before departure, you will receive your Beachcomber travel wallet containing all documents, your itinerary, and even contact cards to share with guests.
• If arranging a wedding reception, all guests must stay at the same hotel as you.

The Day of Departure

Make a final check to ensure you have:

• Travel documents
• Passports
• Originals of all required wedding documents
• Bride and groom’s wedding outfits
• Wedding party outfits, if applicable
• For the bride: something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue
• Copies of speeches, if required
• Rings

When You Arrive

• Take the day to settle into your chosen hotel, relax by the pool, sip a cocktail at sunset, and enjoy the first day of your honeymoon.
• Meet your wedding planner, who will help you plan your perfect day.
• Choose your wedding location, ceremonies can take place anywhere in the resort. Most couples choose the gardens near the beach, but the choice is yours! Weddings usually take place in the late afternoon for cooler temperatures, better lighting for photographs, and beautiful sunsets. Times are subject to registrar availability and seasonality.

Legalities

While we cannot remove the legal requirements, we promise to make the process as quick and stress-free as possible. The day before your wedding (except public holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays), you will be met at reception around 08:30. You must bring the originals of all required documentation.

You will visit four offices in Port Louis, accompanied by a taxi driver:

1. Civil Status Main Office, Port Louis – All documents are double-checked, and authorization for the wedding is granted.
2. Attorney at Law – Original documents are verified, and affidavits prepared before being sworn at the Supreme High Court of Mauritius.
3. Supreme High Court of Mauritius – Affidavits are sworn. Dress smartly: no shorts for men, arms covered for women (smart casual is acceptable; no children allowed).
4. Civil Status Sub-Office – Located near your hotel for the publication of your wedding. Here, you’ll discuss your wedding time and vows with the Civil Status Officer, who confirms the official wedding time (often around 4pm).

If your birth certificates have been re-issued within three months of your wedding date or your affidavit is already completed, visits to the Attorney at Law and Supreme High Court are not required.

Return to the hotel around 1pm to relax on the beach and enjoy the afternoon.

After the Big Day

Perfect for easing post-wedding blues, your honeymoon begins immediately! Relax on the beach, enjoy water sports, explore local cuisine, take a shopping trip in Port Louis, or tour a rum factory before returning for a romantic candlelit dinner for two.
