Discovering the Seychelles

Having recently returned from the Seychelles, Penny Mannion, Reservations Consultant, expressed a strong desire to return. She and her colleague Gill, both from reservations, were invited to visit a variety of hotels across the islands. Watching the sunrise as they approached their first island, she immediately recognised the Seychelles as something special.

Our journey began on Mahé, the largest of the 115 islands. We first visited the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa, a tranquil property with just 56 villas facing the ocean. It was the perfect base to relax while exploring the surrounding area.

Later, we visited the H Hotel, a grand property known for its lively atmosphere and chandeliered entrance. Located near Beau Vallon Beach, one of Mahé’s most popular beaches, the hotel provided access to windsurfing, kite surfing, scuba diving, and numerous water activities.

After a short flight from Mahé, we arrived at Denis Private Island, greeted with a fresh lunch featuring home-grown vegetables and freshly caught fish. Cycling around the island on provided bikes allowed us to explore quickly and intimately. Each cottage had an open-air bathroom and a private garden courtyard. With no mobile reception or in-room internet, it was a serene escape into nature.

Conservation was a highlight on Denis Island. We met Toby the tortoise, aged 118, and learned about rare bird species and the island’s ecology. Gill even spotted a Hawksbill turtle during our tour. The privacy, natural beauty, and exceptional cuisine made this an unforgettable experience.

Returning to Mahé, we stayed at the Banyan Tree Seychelles, a colonial-style property with 60 villas, many featuring private pools. The resort offered a romantic and luxurious experience with beachfront views.

We also visited Constance Ephelia Resort, known for a wide variety of activities suitable for families, friends, or couples. Its sprawling grounds and natural setting make it ideal for both relaxation and adventure.

Flights between Mahé and Praslin are frequent and short. Praslin is known for its relaxed pace and natural charm. We explored the Vallee de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage site home to the rare coco de mer palm and endemic bird species. Later, we visited Anse Lazio, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Seychelles.

From Praslin, we took the Cat Rose ferry to La Digue, known for its slow pace of life. Cycling around the island allowed us to experience its charm and natural beauty. We stayed at Domaine L’Orangeraie, with unique villas perched on the hillside, offering stunning sunsets and modern amenities.

No visit to La Digue is complete without seeing Anse Source d’Argent, famous for its pink granite boulders and calm turquoise waters. The island is perfect for snorkeling, swimming, or simply relaxing by the beach.

Silhouette Island – Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa

From Mahé, a high-speed ferry took us to Silhouette Island, home to the Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa, the only resort on the island. The sunset en route was spectacular. The resort offered lit walkways, multiple dining options, and a pristine beach ideal for relaxation or exploration.

Our last full day was spent at the Four Seasons Seychelles on Mahé. We enjoyed lunch with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and explored activities such as snorkelling, surfing, and coral conservation projects.

Finally, we stayed at Carana Beach Hotel, a charming boutique hotel with 40 chalets. The Ocean View Pool Chalets provided private plunge pools and stunning ocean views. Evenings spent stargazing while listening to the waves created lasting memories.
