Nick’s Thoughts on Mauritius with Beachcomber Resorts

I often think back to April in Marmaris, Turkey, sitting in a classroom listening to Sarah Archer talk about Mauritius and the Beachcomber brand. It all looked incredible, but there is nothing quite like experiencing a destination for yourself. The journey, the smells, the food, the scenery… and most importantly, seeing whether reality lives up to the brochure photos.

The flight was a long one at around 12 hours, and when you’re 6ft 4in, economy seating can start to feel like a form of advanced yoga. However, after collecting our luggage, I heard the words every weary traveller dreams of: “The transfer is less than 10 minutes.”

Now, how many luxury resorts can genuinely claim to be just 10 minutes from a major international airport?

After what felt like about 24 hours of travelling, I arrived at Shandrani Beachcomber, walked into the lobby and was immediately greeted by a stunning view of the pool and beach stretching out in front of me. Instantly, I felt at home. The welcome was superb, with a cold towel and a refreshing glass of local juice waiting for us. It was exactly what was needed after a long journey.

Following breakfast, I spent some time exploring the resort. Standing beside the calm turquoise lagoon waters was truly special. Then, heading over to the eastern beach, I experienced the power of the Indian Ocean crashing onto miles of white sand. It brought to life every image of Mauritius I had ever seen on television, in magazines, or online.

The welcome reception that evening was another highlight. The resort manager and his team took the time to speak with everyone individually before getting involved in teaching guests some local dancing. Fortunately for everyone watching, I resisted the urge to demonstrate my own dance moves. The friendliness and genuine engagement from the team was exceptional and set the tone for the entire trip.

Victoria Beachcomber – My Personal Favourite

It didn’t take me long to realise that Victoria Beachcomber was the one for me.

The moment I walked into reception, I knew it. The beach was breathtaking, the pool looked incredibly inviting, and the atmosphere just felt right. If I were booking a Beachcomber holiday for myself and my partner, this would be the hotel I’d choose.

One of my favourite memories was grabbing a drink from the beach bar, finding a lounger, and watching the sunset paint the sky over the ocean. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Once again, the staff were outstanding. The raised breakfast platform they arranged for us on our first morning was a lovely touch, and nothing ever seemed too much trouble. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit hotels all over the world, and the team at Victoria genuinely ranks among the very best I’ve encountered.

People Make the Difference

Another highlight was visiting Canonnier Beachcomber, particularly its impressive spa facilities. I spent some time chatting with the resort manager and was fascinated to learn he had been with Beachcomber for more than 25 years.

What stood out was how much the company had invested in his development over the years, helping him progress into a senior management role. That commitment to staff development is something you can genuinely see across the island. The employees are happy, passionate, and proud of what they do, and that positivity shines through in every guest interaction.

Paradis and Dinarobin – Simply Stunning

Paradis Beachcomber completely blew me away.

Standing on the putting green at Paradis Golf Club with Le Morne Brabant towering in the background, I immediately pictured golfers from the UK who would give their left arm for the opportunity to play there. The setting is simply spectacular.

The resort itself felt like another step up in luxury. The beachfront bar, the pool area, and the incredible stretch of beach all combined to create something special. One morning I had breakfast on the beach; the next by the pool. Tough decisions, I know.

The beach here is breathtaking, and I couldn’t resist filming a couple of interviews with the Indian Ocean behind me. Let’s be honest, that’s what sells Mauritius. It’s the image people dream about when planning that once-in-a-lifetime holiday.

Then came Dinarobin Beachcomber, which somehow managed to save the best until last.

The scenery here was outstanding. The pools set against the backdrop of Le Morne Brabant, the pristine white sand beaches, the comfortable loungers and beanbags, and the beautifully designed resort layout all combined to create a genuine feeling of five-star luxury.

From the moment we arrived and saw the elegant water features outside reception, it was clear this was something special. And then there was the beachside lunch we were treated to.

Wow.

That’s probably the simplest and most accurate way to describe it.

I would have absolute confidence recommending Dinarobin to clients looking for the ultimate luxury escape.

Final Thoughts

Before we knew it, the week was drawing to a close. However, Beachcomber had one final surprise in store for us: an evening at a stunning beachside villa complete with live music, chefs cooking incredible food on a barbecue, and our own private bar.

It’s fair to say they pulled out all the stops.

I came away genuinely excited to sell the Beachcomber product. As a travel consultant, I always prefer to experience what I’m recommending. No classroom presentation, brochure, or webinar can replicate standing on the beach, talking to the staff, tasting the food, and seeing the resorts with your own eyes.

The Beachcomber portfolio truly offers something for everyone, from couples and honeymooners to families. I particularly liked the adults-only areas available at some resorts, providing those pockets of peace and tranquillity when needed. Discover Beachcomber’s adults-only resorts in Mauritius.

What impressed me most, however, was the people. The friendliness, warmth, and professionalism of the staff were unlike anything I’ve experienced at a land-based resort before. Outside of my time on cruise ships, I’ve rarely seen customer service delivered so consistently well.

Having the opportunity to experience six different Beachcomber resorts, while also exploring the island itself, gave me a real appreciation of Mauritius and how varied it is from coast to coast. Every resort has its own personality, its own strengths, and its own appeal.

And for anyone who thinks Mauritius is simply about sitting beside a pool or lying on a beach all day, think again. There is so much more to discover, and the island deserves to be explored. Explore our Mauritius destination guide.

Thank you, Beachcomber. I’ll definitely be talking about Mauritius for a long time to come… and probably boring a few customers with far too many sunset photos along the way!
