Arrival in Style
We arrived via a private domestic flight, a true taste of luxury. With just 14 seats, it felt more like flying a private jet than a domestic hop. The flight south of Mahé took only 20-25 minutes, and with a generous 30kg baggage allowance, we arrived worry-free. The hotel staff greeted us warmly, and my private butler, Angel, whisked me off on a buggy for a quick tour before I checked into my One Bedroom Hawksbill Villa. Thoughtful touches like beach shoes and snorkelling gear were already waiting.
The villas are stunning, designed with privacy and comfort in mind. Each is nestled in its own garden cocoon, with only 57 villas on the entire island. My villa had a private pool, sun loungers, a swing seat, and a discreet path down to the beach. Inside, the lounge led to a spacious bedroom, which opened to a grand bathroom featuring indoor and outdoor showers and luxurious Aesop toiletries.
Island Exploration & Lunch
After a quick turnaround, we hopped on our complimentary bicycles, personalised with name tags and headed to La Perle, one of the island’s three restaurants, for a light lunch. My colleague went diving with Blue Safaris, while I returned to my villa and decided to walk off my lunch, taking a 45-minute stroll around the island.
I encountered no one else, only turtle tracks, evidence of a Hawksbill turtle nesting. Platte Island is a natural breeding ground for Hawksbill turtles between November and March, and it was humbling to witness such untouched nature.
Adventure Activities
As evening approached, I joined a sunset Pilates session, taking in the sky as it changed colors over the Indian Ocean. Dinner that night was at Maison Des Epices, featuring Creole-Latin fusion cuisine, a perfect end to a serene day.
The next morning, I embarked on a snorkelling session at a secret spot behind the spa. I was thrilled to swim alongside a Hawksbill turtle who followed our every move, and a manta ray even joined us for a few moments. The spa itself features individual treatment rooms shaped like a Coco De Mer, adding to the island’s unique charm.
Afterwards, we enjoyed breakfast and a relaxing bike ride around the island, stopping by the Sea Scouts Kids Club and the pirate ship playground, a reminder that even this remote paradise offers something for everyone.
I travelled just two weeks ago, technically during low season, and was met with nothing but sunshine. Every single day delivered 30°C and clear skies. Of course, weather is never guaranteed, but according to resort staff, the monsoon season has been arriving later in recent years, often not until August.
Reflections on 24 Hours
Platte Island is a blend of luxury, privacy, and unspoiled nature. From swimming with turtles and manta rays, to quiet strolls and sunset Pilates, every moment felt curated yet effortlessly natural. It’s a destination that lingers in your memory long after departure.
Resorts
A remote, private atoll in the Seychelles, it stands out for its strong conservation focus and rich wildlife encounters, including it’s sightings of turtles and reef fish.
